In 2006 a German explorer reports he has found one of the world's highest waterfalls located in the isolated northern jungle near Chachapoyas: 2,530 feet high.

The waterfall had previously been rarely seen by any outsider, due to its remote location. Legends that it is haunted by a mystical siren have kept the local population at bay for hundreds of years.

KARIJIA
Karajia, a spectacular funerary site. Here we will find 3-meter anthropomorphic wooden coffins located under a cliff. Mummies were placed inside each coffin.

The Pre-Columbian Chachapoyas culture, conquered in the 15th century by the Incas, has left a landscape scattered with villages and burial sites which until recently has been largely overlooked by archaeologists.

The winding rivers and creek beds carve the terrain, headwaters of fuel for the mighty Amazon River.

The few and far between roads and paths scar a landscape where ancient civilizations arose and fell.

Remote and oasitic stone ruins hide beneath the bromeliads.

The weather is predominantly mild and pleasant. During the day the temperature reaches 25°C when it's sunny and 20°C if the sky is overcast. At night the temperature does not usually drop below 15°C.

There can be rainfall throughout the year, however the rainy season starts in November and lasts until April.
